Odol Ramsbottom Carbon Residue Analyzer

Odol Ramsbottom Carbon Residue Analyzer

Carbon residue analyzer to determine the amount of carbon residue at 550°C

Odol Ramsbottom Carbon Residue Analyzer covers the determination of the amount of carbon residue left after evaporation and pyrolysis of an oil, and is intended to provide some indication of relative coke-forming propensity according to the ASTM D524 and related standards.

The carbon residue of fuel&oil products indicate oils’ tendency to form a carbonaceous residue at high temperatures. Carbonaceous residue, generally referred as carbon residue, is also known as coke or thermal coke. FFAs, glyceride content, residual catalyst, polymers, soaps, and other pollutants are all represented in the residue.

Ramsbottom carbon residue test consists weighing a sample in a glass bulb container and heating to 550C. The light components are usually distilled out of the bulb, while the rest of the sample creates thermal coke. The bulb is cooled and re-weighed after the heating period. The residue is reported as a percentage of the original sample.
